Our Autumn and Winter workshops are available to book now.

Introduction to collagraph printing (2 day workshop)

Cost: £95

Wednesday 9th November Day 1 (10 -4pm) and Wednesday 16th November Day 2 (10-2pm)

Tutors: Sue Lowe and Sarah Ward

This two day workshop will cover designing and constructing plates, inking up and printing using the etching press.  The workshop is suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience who would like to explore some different approaches to collagraph printing.

Introduction to linocut printing

Cost: £65

Thursday 10th November ~ 10-4pm

Tutor: Lisa Takahashi

In this one day workshop, you will be introduced to the principles of the dynamic and addictive process of linocut printing. We will practice using lino cutting tools and print abstract patterns over one another to create exciting layers, as well as design and print a one colour linocut image. We will learn how to hand print linocuts using a spoon or Japanese bamboo baren, and compare the results to printing with a Victorian Albion press.

Reduction Linocut 2 day workshop

Cost: £90

Friday 18th and Friday 25th November ~ 10-2pm

Tutor: Lisa Takahashi

For beginners or those with a little experience of stamping or linocut, we will explore the reduction print method; learn about the principles behind the process, before designing and cutting our own reduction prints. There will also be opportunity to explore different approaches to inking up and a look at how different colours can alter the mood of your finished print. You will leave with a completed multi-colour reduction print, and almost certainly a craving to have another go!  It would be useful if students can bring an image of a portrait, ideally with strong shadows/directional lighting across the face, A5 size.

Print your own Christmas cards, wrapping paper and gift tags

Cost: £65

Thursday 1st December 10-4pm

Tutor: Lisa Takahashi

During this workshop you will get to grips with basic linocut printmaking.  We’ll discuss what makes a dynamic one colour image before having a go and designing our own, transferring them to a lino block and then cutting our image. We’ll then print the image as a repeat pattern for wrapping paper, as well as a single motif in another colour for cards and tags. You will use the studio’s historic Victorian Albion press and be guided through the process in a step by step way in our professional print studio.

There is a maximum of 6 places per session. Details of what to bring on the day are available via the course booking page.
