Studio

Albatross Print Studio is prominently placed on the ground floor of East Quay, opening onto the central open space, beside East Quay Kitchen. It sits at the centre of a community of creative and heritage enterprises, artists and makers, built around the East Quay gallery, presenting changing exhibitions and community events. Our neighbours are Two Rivers Paper, producers of hand-made, specialist papers for artists and a geology lab run by environmental consultancy Geckoella, highlighting West Somerset’s fossil-rich coast. All of this makes Albatross an exciting and inspiring place to work, with a strong public profile.

The studio is equipped to support intaglio, relief and silk screen printmaking. The total studio area is 57 sqm. The main space accommodates 2 large presses and a silk screen vacuum table, plus drying racks, several metres of workbench and storage. A darkroom and wet room have been built in for exposure and cleaning of silk screens.

Our etching press is the AE4829 model from Art Equipment Ltd, plank size 48″ x 29″ (1220mm x 736mm). The top roller can be raised, allowing for intaglio and relief processes.

Our relief press is a beautiful Albion, which has seen long service, since its manufacture in 1836.

For silk screen the UV exposure unit and our vacuum table will both take screens up to 35” by 24”  frame size (printing A2+ images).
