Open Access

Albatross Studio Members

To book an open access session, email us at: info@albatrossprintstudio.com
The OPEN ACCESS calendar is below; use it to check the three print areas. If a print area is booked, it will appear on the calendar, ie ‘Etching booked’. If nothing is showing, then we should have availability. Please let us know which equipment you want to use, which date(s), and a rough arrival time. (Between 9am and 5pm unless otherwise agreed). Several times a year, the studio runs exhibitions and will not be available for open access during these times.

The aim of ‘open access’ is to allow studio members to work completely independently. Some experience with the equipment that you want to use and an understanding of the process is expected. An initial 2-hour induction to the studio protocols and facilities will be required for all new members. Rest assured that support will be provided initially to help with queries while you gain confidence and get comfortable with the studio set-up.  So please don’t be daunted, if you are considering becoming a member, go ahead and arrange your first booking by emailing us.

Open access is available on Tuesdays and Fridays.

For regular, experienced members who want to work across two or more consecutive days, we can be flexible if we have enough notice. Open access is usually between 9am and 5pm, unless by prior arrangement. For more information, please read our studio membership guide.

An open-access booking is for the exclusive use of a particular work area: etching press, relief press or silk screen printing. Joint booking by a couple of friends who wish to share a press is fine. Talk to us if three or more people want to come and work together, as you may need to book more than one area.

You can use any of the studio tools and equipment, provided you have been shown how to do so correctly and safely. All studio materials, such as ink, mediums, paper, etc, must be paid for on the day of use. You are also welcome to bring your own.

Further details, costs, etc. are in the membership guide. We are also building up a studio handbook of guidance notes and reminders about the use of the studio and print processes.
